Mais uma partida de playoff contra o Seattle Sounders. O que vocês aprenderam da última partida para usar contra eles desta vez?
Acho que somos capazes de vencer a MLS Cup, mas vamos jogar uma partida de cada vez. Sabemos que o começo será em Seattle, sempre um jogo difícil. Desde o início, tivemos bons jogos contra eles, mas sabemos que no ano passado eles vieram a Los Angeles e nos derrubaram na final de conferência. Então, precisamos ver se conseguimos abrir o placar e fazer nosso melhores. É sempre interessante [jogar contra Seattle], as diferenças deles como mandante e visitante. Tipicamente eles possuem planos para fechar o meio do campo contra a gente, então nossa missão será encontrar os espaços e os passes certos, então entender o momento de pressionar.
Vários jogadores estão com suas seleções neste momento. Com isso afeta a preparação para a próxima partida?
Não me faz bem expressar a quantidade de frustração que temos. O foco está em deixar o grupo pronto para jogar. Quando o campeão é definido nos playoffs, faz sentido que as equipes tenham seus melhores jogadores disponíveis para o mata-mata. Mas, não é bom falar disso. Temos que nos concentrar em ter a mentalidade correta para enfrentar o Seattle e sermos os melhores para vencer este importante jogo. Vamos levar os jogadores disponíveis e trabalhar como loucos para dar o melhor e passar.
Carlos Vela voltou nos últimos jogos da temporada regular e jogou bem. Ele está apto para os playoffs? Quanto o time depende dele?
Carlos está cada dia mais próximo de sua melhor forma e isso é importante para nosso time. Quando ele está lá, quando a maioria dos jogadores está em forma, nós ainda acreditamos que temos um time capaz de vencer a MLS Cup e quando chegamos nessa fase do ano, sabemos que estamos mais próximos.
Você considera o Seattle Sounders o oponente mais difícil de encarar na primeira rodada dos playoffs?
Sabemos que Seattle tem uma boa equipe. Eles possuem atacantes perigosos, como [Raul] Ruidiaz e Jordan Morris. E, claro, o esperto Nicolas [Lodeiro]. Então se você der o bote na hora errada, eles vão acertar os passes e causar problemas. Isso é algo que certamente estaremos ligados, alguns detalhes para as duas equipes considerarem em um grande jogo como este.
A playoff match against Seattle once more. What do you learned from that match to use this time against them?
I believe we are capable of winning MLS Cup, but you go a game at a time. We know that we start in Seattle. Always a tough game. From the start we’ve had really good games with them, but we know that last year, they came to L.A. and knocked us out of the Playoffs in the Conference Finals. So, we’ve got to see if we can settle that score and go there and be at our best. We’ve had really good games with Seattle. It is always interesting, the differences between playing them at home and on the road. Typically they have ideas on how they try to close down the center of the field against us, and so our ability to find the right spacing and find the right passes is important, and then our understanding of picking the right moments to press.
A lot of players are with their national teams right now. Does this disturb the preparation for the next match? And how does it affect the team?
It doesn’t do me any good to express the amount of frustration we have. The focus is on getting a group ready to play. In the midst of this year, what we’ve seen whether we’re talking about the NBA, Major League Baseball or MLS, is the importance of at the end of the season — having a champion. When the champion is determined through the playoffs, it just makes sense that teams have their best teams available for playoff games. But, it doesn’t do any good to speak about it. We have to concentrate on having the right mentality to go to Seattle and be at our best and win an important game. We are going to take the group that is here, and we are going to work like crazy for two weeks and go to Seattle and give our best effort to move on.
Vela came back in the last regular season games and played well. Is he fit for the playoffs? How much the team depends on him?
Carlos is getting closer and closer to his best form and that is important to our team. When Carlos is there, when as many guys as possible are fit, sharp and good form, we still believe that we have a team that can win MLS Cup and as we get to this time of the year, we think we are getting closer.
Do you consider Seattle the toughest opponent to the face in the first round of the playoffs?
We know Seattle is a very good team. They’ve got dangerous attackers with [Raul] Ruidiaz and Jordan Morris and of course Nicolas [Lodeiro] is smart. So if you’re stepping up at the wrong time then they can put certain balls behind and cause trouble. This is something that were certainly aware of, so lot of little details for both teams to consider in a big game like this.
