Caleb Porter couldn’t hold on to the job after the Columbus Crew missed the playoffs in incredible meltdown fashion for a second straight season.
According to Sam Stejskal and Paul Tenorio from The Athletic, the Columbus Crew confirmed Caleb Porter has been dismissed as head coach of the Columbus Crew this Monday after the MLS Decision Day. Porter said yesterday during his post-game conference that he had one year remaining on his contract.
Porter won MLS Cup in 2020, but missed the playoffs the last two years. The journalist Tom Bogert also reported on Twitter that the Columbus Crew coaching search will begin immediately.

With a loss in Orlando last night, Porter’s Crew missed the playoffs for the second consecutive year. The Crew head coach apologized to fans, players, and the organization for failing to get Columbus into the postseason. Still, apologies weren’t enough to keep the former MLS Cup winner on the job.
“This has been the story of many games this year.” Porter is referring to the fact that, once again, the Crew failed to keep a lead in the game, inevitably surrendering a late goal to the adversary and the three points. In the last five games, out of 15 points played for, the Crew went on to miss on 12 of those after being in a position to win these very five games.
Sources confirm: Columbus Crew parting ways with head coach Caleb Porter.
