After 70 matches with 10 goals and 14 assists, Luquinhas seems to be on track to have his first opportunity to play in Brazil’s first division.
The Brazilian winger Luquinhas is close to leave the New York Red Bulls to the Brazilian side Fortaleza. He would follow the footsteps of Caio Alexandre, who also left Major League Soccer to play for the Brazilian team. The clubs are negotiating the player’s permanent transfer, and a resolution to Luquinhas’s departure could happen at any moment.
The skillful winger was also on Palmeiras radar, but the “Verdão” never submitted an offer to the Red Bulls.
Luquinhas was signed by New York Red Bulls in 2022 for around $4 million and made an instant impact on the team with goals, assists, and skillful dribbles.
In 2023, he suffered a muscular injury at the beginning of the season, sidelining him for about two months. Approaching the end of MLS‘s regular season, Luquinhas regained form and helped New York Red Bulls qualify for the playoffs.
Life After Luquinhas for the New York Red Bulls
Luquinhas’s potential departure may lead to the signing of another attacking midfielder. One of the names gaining momentum to join the Red Bulls is Djorde Mihailovic. The former CF Montreal player, currently with AZ Alkmaar in Holland, could end up being Luquinhas’s replacement in the team.
