In the recent interview with Evander, the Brazilian player vented about the frustrations experienced during the season with the Portland Timbers, revealing that transfers did not cause the tensions but the breaking of promises on the part of the club’s board.
Alongside Cristian Moraes, Tiago Brandão discussed Evander’s spectacular season, its evolution and overcoming challenges, and the goals for the future. The interview is available with captions in English.
Evander shared his experience competing with great players like Messi and Suárez for the MVP title and talked about the honor of representing Brazil among the finalists. We also discussed his friendship with fellow Brazilian Douglas Costa from LA Galaxy and his experience competing in the MLS All-Star Game.
Evander about the Portland Timbers: “There came a time when I had to explode.”
Evander reported that when Timbers hired him, the directors who brought him from Denmark had guaranteed certain contractual aspects that were not fulfilled. He played for a year with a lower salary than promised, which became unsustainable. “There came a time when I had to explode,” he said, explaining that his outburst on social media gave voice to a sense of accumulated disrespect.

The midfielder pointed out that he continued to play out of respect for his teammates and the fans, even after the disappointment with the board. According to him, the situation worsened after the departure of executives who had made initial promises. Evander also shared that, despite the conflicts, his contract with the club runs until 2026, and he plans to continue working professionally while at the Timbers.
In addition to clarifying his frustration, Evander mentioned his desire to return to Brazil or Europe to achieve his dream of representing the Brazilian National Team. His statement came when Brazilian clubs, such as Vasco and Flamengo, showed interest in his soccer. “I want to show that I have evolved and that I have been a different player since leaving Brazil,” he concluded, leaving open a possible return to Brazilian soccer.
