When they take the field to face Toronto FC on April 30th, FC Cincinnati will make their 100th game in Major League Soccer. Expansion franchise of the 2019 season, when he joined the MLS after two seasons playing the USL Championship, Cincy never managed to succeed on the field, even with high investment.
After three full seasons and eight weeks in 2022, the Ohio team hasn’t even won 20 wins or scored more than 100 goals. FC Cincinnati, so far, finished three seasons in the bottom of the league, always having the worst defensive record, and is heading in the same direction in 2022.
FC Cincinnati record in MLS: 99 Games (16W – 19D – 64L), 93 Goals and 201 Goals Against.
When it was announced as an expansion and had a tragic season in 2019, many attributed the failure to the fact that the team had “hurriedly” entered the league. Then, the lack of investment would be to blame, since the franchise focused on building a beautiful stadium in the city.
But the stadium has already been built and important players have come, such as the Brazilian Brenner, but the team continues without gearing up on the field, even after the change in the coaching staff and General Manager position.
Was FC Cincinnati a mistake by the MLS when choosing the expansion or will the team still turn around?
