FIFA Club World Cup 2022: What do we know so far?

The Club World Cup 2022, which should only be played in 2023, began to gain important new information for the clubs involved in the tournament. Officially, no date or venue has been announced by FIFA at this time. So here is the information we have about the Club World Cup so far.

DATE

According to information that emerged this Thursday (17th), Peter Tomazawa, President of Operations for the Seattle Sounders, CONCACAF representative in the tournament, was informed to mark off the dates from February 1st to February 12th for the tournament. The same was advised for Al-Hilal, a club from Saudi Arabia that will represent the AFC in the world tournament.

However, these are not dates confirmed by FIFA, but there is already an indication that the tournament should take place in the first half of February.

The tournament in question usually takes place in December, but since 2020 due to the Covid-19 pandemic and also because the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 is held at the end of the Year, the tournament has been held in the early months of the following year.

LOCATION

In recent months there have been several speculations that the city of Miami was the favorite in the eyes of FIFA to host the tournament. However, according to the Brazilian journalist from OGoal, Raisa Simplicio, the Saudi club Al-Hilal said that it will reassess its participation in the tournament if it happens in the United States, due to the distance. Considering that the team will be in mid-season in February, unlike Flamengo and Sounders who will be in pre-season.

According to first-hand information also published by Raisa and later by reporter Gustavo Lopes, after the Copa final in October, Flamengo began to work on its logistics for Abu Dhabi, in the United Arab Emirates, which also hosted the last edition. of the tournament in 2022 when Chelsea F.C beat Palmeiras 2-1 in overtime.

Once again, none of this information has been confirmed by FIFA or any participating team, but it already gives us an indication that the tournament should be held in the Middle East once again. According to Garth Legerway of the Seattle Sounders and Rodolfo Landim, president of Flamengo, clubs should only receive concrete information after the end of the World Cup in Qatar, delaying an official announcement by FIFA for 2023.
